Meet 'Trumpet', the Illinois dog who won 'Best in Show' at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show - NBC Chicago

An Illinois bloodhound was a very, very good boy on Wednesday when he received the ‘Best in Show’ award at the Westminster Kennel Club’s 146th annual dog show.

This is the first time in the history of the series that a Bloodhound has won the top prize.

Trumpet, a 4.5-year-old male bloodhound from St. Joseph beat a field of 3,000 dogs on Wednesday after three days of fierce competition in Best of Breed, Group and Best in Show.

Winston the French Bulldog won the Reserve Best in Show award. This means that if Trumpet were to be stripped of his title for any reason, Winston would receive the ribbon.

Other finalists included Hollywood the Maltese, River the German Shepherd, Belle the English Setter, Striker the Samoyed and MM the Lakeland Terrier.
